The new door should be 1 2 inch less than the height of the rough opening and 3 4 inch less in width.

Most security doors come in a prehung frame.
A prehung door is a unit that comes with hardware and a frame ready to be installed into a doorway.
Purchasing one does simplify and speed up installation but the term prehung is really a misnomer.
Tape your level to a straight 2x4 as shown.
Level it out against the door frame by placing shims behind it.
Next shim the center area of the jamb to straighten it and then nail it.
Remove the interior trim and measure the width and height of the frame.
These doors and jambs must still be carefully adjusted to account for shortcomings in the wall frame.

Next consider the door frame.
If you re installing a pre hung door make sure you get the correct.
Drive two nails through each shim about an inch from each edge of the jamb with one about a inch above the other.
It s a good idea to measure the actual door too.

Nail the door frame to studs drive 8 finishing nails through the frame through the shims and into the studs.
