Installing A Floating Floor Over Tile

You should install an underlayment before laying the floor but you may need to install transition strips. If the tiles aren t flat you need to level the floor using leveling compound. This is a mixture of cement fine grain sand and water that will adhere the new tile to the old. Once you ve removed lose or broken pieces patch the empty sections with a liquid cement or mortar letting it settle level with the tile floor. Pour the mixture onto the floor and distribute it with a trowel or float until the entire floor has more or less the same amount of material and is flush with the tops of the tiles. As with any flooring surface if there are major depressions and extensive cracking the issue may be with the subflooring.

Mix a cementitious floor leveling compound such as henry 555 level pro or levelquik self leveling underlayment with water in a bucket until the mixture is pourable. Use a thin set product to install ceramic tile over existing tiles. The short answer is yes you can install laminate flooring over a ceramic tile floor if the tile floor is in good condition and the tile are well attached level and flat.

Since tile is a durable substrate there is little risk of deterioration when another flooring substance is placed over it. Also consider that doors cabinets and other hardware might need to be reworked or replaced with new ones to compensate for the higher floor.
